The Holistic Wellness Approach

“Can you eat your cake and have it?

Helas... we live in a world where 9 out of 10 will answer - You must be joking! A world where we are conditioned to accept a limited vision of health and wellness.

I hear you already saying, You cannot eat your cake and have it, period - just like for some to win, others have to loose. You cannot be religious and enjoy the pleasures of life. Wealth is contrary to spirituality… I can go on and on.

Blame it if you so wish on Cartesian logic, which knows only a two dimensional reality, i.e. the physical dimension of matter and energy based on the laws of physics and the spiritual dimension of information (mind) and consciousness.

What do you say does that have to do with my health and wellness? Well, the argument is that, whereas the physical reality is governed by science that we can verify, spiritual reality is entirely a matter of faith in intuitive or transmitted wisdom from religious or mythical origins. These two realities go in paralel lines and never meet. Therefore if you follow the one route, you by implication exclude the other one. You will only confuse yourself by trying to follow both.

We have accepted for ages that reality is either black or white – it either fits in the one or the other box.

Watchdogs of either camp have for long viewed with suspicion any suggestion that spiritual factors (e.g. mind, emotions etc.) have or can have an impact on physical matter and energy and vice versa. To keep the faithful in line, either side has used and continue to use derision or demonization to discredit anyone challenging accepted doctrine. This tendency of humanity to blame the messenger for new insights challenging the conventional view is not new.

However, advances in recent years, in especially in the field of quantum sciences is today responsible for the shift in thinking and the mainstream acceptance of the notion of the indivisibility of reality.

The concept of holistic wellness responds to that new universal understanding that our reality and therefore our health and wellness is:
(1) Multi-dimensional;
(2) Indivisible and
(3) Self-sustaining when nurtured through pro-active lifestyle habits, routines and practices that maintain "ease", "balance" and unity as implied by the meaning of the root of the word "wellness" which is "whole" in sanskrit, the oldest written language transmitted by mankind.

Recognition of the multi-dimensional nature of health and wellness implies on the one hand a different holistic preparation of caregivers in competencies, tools and resources such as meditation, bio-feedback and the NES human body field scan diagnosis that go beyond those for which they were traditional prepared for. Proof that it is not novel futuristic idea is the fact that Thomas Edison (1847-1937) formulated that vision more than a century ago when he predicated that “the doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her/his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in cause and prevention of “dis-ease”. (emphasis mine).

It implies on the other hand, care receivers willing to assume greater pro-active responsibility for their personal well-being, the understanding and use of things such as routine:

  1. Meditation, breath work
  2. Detoxification
  3. Balanced nutrition
  4. Aerobic fitness
  5. Herbs and natural remedies,
  6. Visualization, mental imagery and mind manifestation
  7. Self-hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming,
  8. Massage and detoxification
  9. Humour and stress management
  10. Energy Healing etc

In short holistic wellness has to with a total lifestyle approach based on consistent attitudes towards a person’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. TheWholeSpiel Blog is dedicated to the exploration of practitioners and users interested in a fearless and open-minded exploration of reality in all its facets and dimensions.
